Meet the Planet Scuba Family — OLD

I’ve been diving and teaching since the 1980s and I’m not sure which one I like more. I’ve skimmed over the waves of an underwater lake in the cenotes of the Yucatan, touched bull sharks in the Sleeping Shark Caves at Isla Muheres, explored wrecks at 150 ft., mapped the distribution of algae at Rocas Alijos, played peekaboo with harbor seals in the kelp forests of Monterey, and more. And then I’ve also seen a beaming smile when fear changed to confidence, laughter when success that had been thought to be unattainable was achieved, and the sense of accomplishment that results from finally becoming comfortable in a world so different from our own. Both the diving and the teaching have given me cherished moments that I am so grateful for having experienced. I hope to see you in a class and be able to help you navigate your own journey into the wondrous world under the waves.

Specialties: Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigator, Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox), Deep Diver, Night Diver, Rescue Diver

I have been diving for over 40 years and love everything about the Ocean. I especially enjoy underwater photography and helping others enjoy the underwater world. If I were a fish, I would be a barracuda because I am sleek and fast in the water and I have a voracious appetite to dive and help others learn about diving.

img_0942-1After over 20 years of diving I still get a thrill taking people under water to this foreign world for the first time! I am fortunate right now to be working at all the things I love. Brewing beer , Mountain bikes, woodworking, and diving!

Danya Goodwill, PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

dsc04721I became an Open Water Diver in 2001, in San Carlos, Mexico. After doing just a handful of dives between 2001 and 2002, I didn’t get back in to Scuba diving until 2008. At that time, once I got back in, I couldn’t get enough! I knew scuba would take me on wonderful adventures, but little did I know it would also bring me to find my dive buddy for life! My husband Chris and I have been fortunate to dive in San Carlos, Florida, California, Fiji, Cozumel, Hawaii, Philippines, St. Croix, Socorro, Midriff Islands, Lake Mohave, and Lake Pleasant. I love working with Open Water students, kids, and especially our veterans. Giving someone the gift of the underwater world is the best part of what I do.

Andy MacLeod, PADI Assistant Instructor

amacleod_ps_headshotI am a passionate diver, who is just getting into underwater photography. I now dive worldwide with an even deeper love for the seas. Helping learning and new divers improve, gain skills, and become comfortable underwater is an honor for me every time.

Cris Najar, Dive Master Candidate and Sales Associate

imageMy name is Cris Najar and I’m a scubaholic. I was certified in lake Mohave in 2012 as kind of a “check it off the list”. I was immediately swept away with the under water world and sea life. I immediately knew this was what I would do for the rest of my life. My favorite places to dive are Boniare, San Padre island, and San Carlos.
If I had to choose which fish I would be. I would choose to be the Sea of Cortez angel fish, I would get free nachos and watermelon for the rest of my life!

From that moment, he knew he wanted to dive! After he completed his Open Water course, he quickly moved on to advance his skillset and eventually moved on to our professional ranks as an Instructor. I worked at IBM for 34 years and have retired to do more teaching and volunteer work. I volunteer at the National Observatory on Kitt Peak and the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. The Ocean has become my home for the past 20 years. With over 2,200 dives and 2,100 hours underwater, it is always an honor and privilege to introduce someone new to our underwater world. The real pleasure is showing an existing diver new ways to enjoy their experience underwater through continuing education. We never stop learning and continue to be amazed at what lies beneath water! What a privilege.

A retired Paramedic, I still teach EMS Administration and Sports Medicine seminars but being retired means I can do the things I really want like running and reading ( oh, and knitting) but the thing I love the best is travel. Our world is such a fascinating place to explore! I travel for work and I travel for fun so traveling for Scuba is just another way to get to see the world. The underwater world is as varied and as exciting as anything topside and teaching Scuba is a great way for me to introduce you to it. I always am looking for a dive buddy – join me and discover the wonders of breathing underwater!

Liane Wong, PADI Specialty Instructor
Specialties: Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigator, Deep Diver, Night Diver, Rescue Diver

I have been an instructor since 1997 so I am looking forward to hitting the 20 year mark in teaching! I have taught in Taiwan, Philippines, Mexico and Tucson/Phoenix. My favorite class to teach is the Open Water Scuba class simply because I love to see people go from the not knowing how to put their gear together to doing flips in the deep end of the pool!  I have many favorite locations to dive but currently it is Nevis (Caribbean), Wakatobi (Indonesia), Visayans (Philippines). The more people I can teach about scuba diving and the underwater world, the more people will be able to speak up for the Ocean. During the day I am a Real Estate Agent with Centra Realty in Tucson. Raising my Silver Labradors, travel and trying new foods are some of my other hobbies. Thanks for diving with us!
